HCC End of Week Update

HCC End of Week Update (3 Series Complete)

Team of the Week: Avon

Avon put the conference on notice this week.

The Orioles rattled off four straight wins after losing 4-3 to Plainfield to start the week, highlighted by a dominant series sweep over previously unbeaten Hamilton Southeastern—and neither game was close.

Avon exploded for 30 total runs across the two games, winning 18–6 and 12–2 to move to 3–3 in HCC play and right back into the conference race. Their overall record now sits at 7–6–1.

Offensively, the Orioles were relentless. Freshman Caleb Wessel led the charge, going 5-for-6 with three runs scored and two doubles across the series. Kaven Tislow (4-for-7) and Xavier Esslinger (5-for-6) provided plenty of support in what turned into a complete offensive showcase.

Avon now turns its attention to a rivalry matchup with Brownsburg in this week’s HCC series.

Biggest Move: Noblesville

It didn’t start clean—but it ended with a statement.

After a 3–2 upset loss to Rossville early in the week, the Millers responded by going 4–1, capped by a series sweep of Franklin Central.

The impact? Massive.

With Hamilton Southeastern dropping both games to Avon and Westfield splitting with Fishers, the Millers flipped the standings—going from trailing by one game to leading the conference by one.

And they did it on the mound.

Game 1 turned into an instant classic pitcher’s duel between Beckett Doane and Andrew Jimenez. Doane carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning, finishing with 17 strikeouts, while Jimenez matched him with 13 Ks over 6.2 innings. The game stayed scoreless until the 8th, when Noblesville broke it wide open with a 10-run explosion. Griffin Snider and Brooks Muse closed out the combined no-hitter.

Game 2 followed the same script—pitching dominance. Eli Hall and Griffin Snider combined for a three-hit shutout in a 4–0 win to secure the sweep.

Noblesville now heads into a massive matchup with Westfield this week.

Conference Outlook

We wondered if Series 3 would create separation.

It didn’t.

What it did do was confirm what this conference is becoming: a weekly fight.

Two major series headline the upcoming slate:

  • Noblesville vs. Westfield

  • Fishers vs. Hamilton Southeastern

Can Fishers finally break through with a sweep?

Can Noblesville create real separation at the top?

How does HSE respond after getting run over?

And don’t look now—Avon is surging, and Zionsville is still very much in the mix.

Prediction: Another week with more questions than answers.

This is shaping up to be one of the most competitive HCC races in recent memory—with no clear dominant team.
