HCC Power Rankings – Week 2

HCC Power Rankings – Week 2

Early results, real signals, and a few caution flags

Two weeks into the season, records are starting to form—but they’re still far from complete stories. With only one conference series in the books so far, these rankings lean on a mix of overall performance, run differential, and strength of record to separate teams.

Here’s how things stack up right now:

1. Zionsville (6–1) – Current Rating: 119.82

Zionsville holds the top spot, and it’s not hard to see why. The preseason favorite has largely delivered, combining a strong record with consistent run production and control on the mound.

An early series split with Fishers does not knock them off their perch based on their overall body of work.

Takeaway: Still the most complete team in the conference.

2. Noblesville (5–4) – Current Rating: 114.17

Noblesville’s record might not jump off the page, but their performance does. They’ve been competitive across the board and have delivered strong results in key spots, backed by a solid strength of record.

They were dominant in their series with Avon, however defending HCC Champs Fishers awaits this week, which should give a clearer picture of who the Millers really are.

Takeaway: More dangerous than their record suggests.

3. Westfield (4–3) – Current Rating: 107.35

Westfield continues to look like a balanced, steady team. They’ve handled their opportunities well and show strong underlying numbers, particularly in strength of record.

They may not have a flashy resume yet, but they’ve quietly built one of the more reliable profiles in the conference.

Takeaway: A consistent team with upward potential.

4. Fishers (3–4) – Current Rating: 85.22

No team is more interesting right now than Fishers.

At 3–4, they sit below .500—but they’ve played the toughest schedule in the HCC and have the highest strength of record. They’ve been tested early and haven’t backed down.
The Tigers took game one of their series with Zionsville before dropping game two. The defending champs could quickly re-establish themselves as the frontrunner with a strong showing against Noblesville this week.

Takeaway: This is not a typical losing team—watch them closely.

5. Hamilton Southeastern (6–2) – Current Rating: 84.31

HSE has one of the best records in the conference, but the model is still cautious.

Their results have been strong, but against a lighter schedule so far. That doesn’t mean they aren’t good—it just means there’s not enough evidence yet against top-tier competition. Their HCC series this week with Zionsville should answer several questions about the much improved Royals early in the season.

Takeaway: Winning now, but still being evaluated.

6. Brownsburg (1–3) – Current Rating: 63.23

Brownsburg has had a limited number of games so far, and the results haven’t gone their way. Negative run differential and a small sample size make it hard to draw strong conclusions—but they’ll need to pick up momentum quickly.
The Bulldogs need to bounce back this week against Westfield as Head Coach John McCallum looks to get things back on track in his first season.

Takeaway: Too early to write off, but needs a response soon.

7. Avon (2–4–1) – Current Rating: 56.14

Avon has struggled to find consistency early in the season. Close games haven’t broken their way, and overall performance metrics suggest they’ve been outmatched more often than not.

Takeaway: Searching for traction.

8. Franklin Central (4–3) – Current Rating: 48.54

Franklin Central’s record is respectable, but the deeper numbers paint a more cautious picture. Their schedule hasn’t been particularly demanding, and their performance against stronger opponents has been uneven.
The Flashes appear much improved, going 4–1 in non-conference play this season, including a 7–6 victory over perennial state contender Cathedral last week.
A sweep of Avon this week would be another marker that the Flashes are making strides in Coach Vaught’s second year.

Takeaway: Record is solid, but questions remain.

What We’re Learning So Far

Schedule strength matters early. Records aren’t telling the full story. It’s still early, and the next couple of weeks will bring more clarity as schedules even out.

Final Thought

At this stage, it’s less about where teams are—and more about who is building toward something real. Some teams are stacking wins. Others are stacking credibility. Soon, those two things will start to overlap.
